Traviata Number, Amazink Lavender

This week in Cape Town……..some contrasting events…..
First, A Number – a strong-voiced father and son play featuring Samuel and Timothy West, to make you think, weep and wonder. On at the Fugard Theatre which itself has found new means of expression and drawing audiences. On until the 29th.
Second, La Traviata – Cape Town Opera’s stylish production of Verdi’s Italian classic set in ’20’s Paris at Artscape – a production said to cost around R2 million – so you owe it to them to go and see it. Music you know, voices to marvel at and mad, glittering costume in a designer set – and neck cricking sur-titles for those who don’t speak Italian. A great treat in all – and what a privilege to witness a live orchestra.
Third, Ladies in Lavender self-catering weekend with the Ja-Nee Sisterhood at Le Verger olive and lavender farm in Devon Valley – biodynamic marketing, laughing, crying, embroidering, toasting, bonding, reading and soul-restoring event with the best of friends – present and there in spirit.
Lastly, the ama-zing, Amazink Live – a complete blast of cultural energy, dance and dining in Khayamandi Township outside Stellenbosch – fuelled by hot talent and the very best samp n beans and chakalaka courtesy of serious fun-lover chef Bertus Basson. Takes the taste of the township to a new level. You have to go.
till next time – nx
